My categories don't show up on my new computer?

Older versions of Handy (prior to 2.0) stored your category names in the registry on your computer.  (Starting with version 2.0 categories are stored in the address book file, so this should not happen with 2.0 or later created address books.)  When you install Handy to a new computer, your existing categories will not be available.  You can transfer your categories from your old computer to your new computer.  This requires modifying the registry.  If you are not comfortable with this, you may prefer to just re-enter your categories on your new computer.  Follow these instructions to copy the categories from your old to your new computer by modifying the registry:

  1. On your old computer select the "Start" menu and choose "Run..."  Type in "regedit" (without the double quotes) and click OK.
  2. Browse to, and select the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\HABook
  3. Choose "File / Export..." and export the "Selected branch" to a file.  Note the location and filename you assign.
  4. Copy this exported file to your new computer.  You can copy it in any manner you wish.  You can use a floppy, CD, over a network, or attach it to an e-mail.
  5. On your new computer run this registry file by double clicking on it.  You will be prompted if you want to import these registry values.  You should choose Yes.
  6. Re-install Handy on your new computer.  You should install Handy after importing this registry key.  You can download the installation program from our download page.
