Question:  How do I select an End Date for my event?
Answer:  In order for the "End Date" to be available, you must select the "Scheduled" event type, and also change the "Frequency..." to something other than "One Time". You should then see the optional end date control.

Question:  How do I restore a backup of my calendar?
Answer:  Use the "File / Restore..." menu command from within Remind-Me.  Select the *.bdy file you would like to restore.  You can restore any *.bdy backup file.  If you are using Remind-Me 4.2 or earlier, please read the old version restore instructions.

Background Information:  You can make your own backup file from within Remind-Me by using "File / Backup...".  Remind-Me also creates automatic backups for you.  Whenever you exit Remind-Me it will make an automatic backup for you in the "Backup" folder.  The auto-backup feature keeps your last 30 copies of your data.  Each auto-backup filename will be appended with a number.  If you need to restore one of these, look at the file date and size to determine the best one to restore.  The "Backup" folder will be located in your Remind-Me data folder:

For Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP the backup folder will be:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Remind-Me\Backup

If you are using Windows Vista, the backup folder will be:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Remind-Me\Backup

Tip:  The "Application Data" (or "AppData") folder is a hidden folder by default, so you may also need to turn on "Show hidden files and folders" within Windows Explorer's "Tools / Folder Options... / View" dialog.

Question:  How do I send an email reminder to more than 1 recipient?
Answer:  To send email reminders to multiple recipients, just separate the email addresses with a comma.

Question:  How do I add my holidays to the calendar?
Answer:  Holidays can either be manually added, just like any other event, or you can import holidays into your calendar.  To import holidays, first download your desired holidays in an iCalendar (*.ics) format.  One popular place to download calendar events (including holidays) is iCalShare.com.  You can then import this iCalendar file into Remind-Me with "File / Options... / Import / Import File...".

Question:  How do I set the age of the person for my birthday reminders?
Answer:  When recording the birth date, enter the year in which they were born.

Question:  I've got a new computer, how do I transfer Remind-Me?
Answer:  To transfer Remind-Me to a new computer, run the setup program on your new computer to install Remind-Me.  This will install Remind-Me on your new computer.  Get the setup program from the download page.

To transfer your events from your old computer to your new computer you will need to restore the "mydata.bdy" file from your old computer on your new computer.  Use "File / Restore..." on your new computer to read in the mydata.bdy file from your old computer.  The mydata.bdy file will be located on your old computer in your Remind-Me data folder at:

For Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP the data folder will be:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Remind-Me

If you are using Windows Vista, the data folder will be:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Remind-Me

Alternatively, you may use "File / Backup..." from your old computer, and then restore this backup file on your new computer.

For more details, see the restore instructions.

Question:  Why do I keep getting reminded of events that have passed?
Answer:  You must "acknowledge" an event once you no longer wish to be reminded about that event occurrence.

To acknowledge an event place a check mark in the box to the left of that event in the Alarm dialog. You can control the default state of this check mark in the Alarm dialog with the "File / Options... / Prompts / Due Events Default to Acknowledged" option.

Question:  How do I use AOL to send emails with Remind-Me?
Answer:  When you create your event in Remind-Me, select the "E-mail" tab, and choose the "Configure..." button.  Choose the "Always use MAPI Client for Sending E-Mail" option.  Also, select the "My MAPI Client is Netscape or AOL" option.  Click OK to the E-Mail Configuration dialog.

Press the "Test" button to try sending a test email.  If you do not see the email created in AOL, you may need to configure AOL to be the default email client.  You must be using AOL 7.0 or later in order to send emails with Remind-Me.  Here are the instructions for configuring AOL to be the default email client.

  AOL 7.0 or 8.0
  1. Sign onto AOL.
  2. Go to the keyword "Preferences".
  3. Click on the "Association" link to make AOL your default email client.
  AOL 9.0
  1. Sign onto AOL.
  2. Click the "Settings" button on the toolbar.
  3. Click the "A-Z" tab.
  4. Click the "AOL as Default" link.
  5. Click OK

Question:  How do I change the number of automatic backups kept by Remind-Me?
Answer:  By default, Remind-Me will keep 30 backup copies of your most recent data file.  If you want to change this number you can use "regedit" to create a new string value at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Beiley Software\Remind-Me\CurrentVersion\backup

Create a string value named "count" and set it to the number of automatic backups you would like kept.  A value of "0" is valid, and will cause Remind-Me to not create any automatic backups.
