Backup Destination Hierarchy

When running a backup job all of your backed up data is placed into the backup destination specified on the General tab of the configuration editor.  Underneath this backup destination you will see the following folder hierarchy:

<Backup Destination>

<Configuration Description>

<Source Path>

Compressed\

Deleted\

Revisions\

The value for <Backup Destination> is what you specify for "Backup Destination" on the General tab of the configuration editor.  The value for <Configuration Description> is what you specify for the "Description" on the General tab of the configuration editor.

All of the backed up uncompressed files/folders will be placed in the <Source Path> folder(s).  This is a folder hierarchy that exactly matches the original source folder hierarchy.

If you have the option turned on to create a compressed ZIP backup, you will see the Compressed folder, and the ZIP file(s) will be placed in here.

If you have the options to save revisions and deleted files for the uncompressed backup, you will see the Revisions and Deleted folders.  Modified and deleted files will be stored inside these folders using the same <Source Path> folder hierarchy.

Example 1

Suppose you are just backing up uncompressed files/folders, and your backup sources only contain 1 file located at: C:\Data\Word\letter.doc.  If you specified a backup destination of D:\ and your configuration description is Backup Job 1 then your backup destination hierarchy would look like:

D:\

Backup Job 1\

C\

Data\

Word\

letter.doc

Deleted\

Revisions\

Example 2

Assume you have on the option to save revisions, modified the file from Example 1, and did another backup.  Now, your hierarchy would look like:

D:\

Backup Job 1\

C\

Data\

Word\

letter.doc

Deleted\

Revisions\

C\

Data\

Word\

letter.1.doc

The current version of your letter is still backed up to: D:\Backup Job 1\C\Data\Word\letter.doc.  The prior version of letter.doc was renamed and moved to: D:\Backukp Job 1\Revisions\C\Data\Word\letter.1.doc.  Subsequent revisions will be saved as letter.2.doc, letter.3.doc, etc...
