Other Options

From the Other page in the Options dialog, you can specify the following:

Purge Events Completed Over 'X' Days Ago

When this option is turned on any events that were completed the number of days ago that you specify will be removed from Remind-Me's database when you exit.  Events will only be removed if there are no more occurrences, and all occurrences have been acknowledged.  By turning this option on you can keep your database smaller and Remind-Me may open slightly faster, but you will not be able to view these old events if they are removed from the database.

Alarm Sounds Loop Until Dismissed

When this option is turned on, assigned alarm sounds will be continuously played until the alarm list dialog is dismissed.  If this option is off, the sound will only be played once.

Move Selected Calendar Date When Adding Events

When this option is turned on, anytime a new event is added, the selected day in the calendar is moved to the date of this newly added event.  When this option is off, the selected calendar day remains unchanged.

Alarm List Shows Start Time in Name

When this option is turned on, timed events will be displayed as: (start_time) event_name in the alarm list.  When this option is off, these events will be displayed with their name only.

Include Alarm Information in iCalendar Exports

This option controls whether or not exported iCalendar files include alarm information.  The iCalendar specification allows for information on alarms to be transmitted.  Some calendaring programs may not support this.  If you experience difficulties importing Remind-Me exported iCalendar files, try exporting with this option off.

To create an iCalendar file, select one or more events, and then right mouse click and choose an option from the "iCalendar" menu.  You can either forward an iCalendar file by email, or save the iCalendar file to disk.  See iCalendar Export Options.

Related Tip:  To import an iCalendar file see the Import Options Dialog.

Show Calendar as Desktop Wallpaper

Displays the current month calendar as your desktop's wallpaper.  Press the "Options..." button to control the appearance of this calendar.  You can adjust the position, size, background color, and whether or not events are displayed on the calendar.

Portable Mode

Select this option to run Remind-Me off a removable drive (like a memory stick) so that you can run the program from any computer.  When portable mode is turned on, no changes are made to the host computer.  For example, all program options and preferences are stored in the "rmprefs.txt" file located in the same folder as the Remind-Me executable. When portable mode is off, your preferences are instead stored in the registry. (more info)

Enable Outlook Syncing

This option will only be available if you have installed the version of Remind-Me with the Outlook conduit.  Leave this option turned on if you wish to synchronize with Outlook.  If you are not going to be syncing with Outlook, turn this option off to reduce the size of your Remind-Me database.  [more info]

Tray Icon Colored When Alarms are Open

When this option is on, Remind-Me's icons change appearance whenever the Alarm List is opened, indicating you have alarms being displayed.  This can be helpful to alert you of alarms that may be displayed behind another open window.  The background color of Remind-Me's task tray icon will change to another color of your choice.  A red dot appears on the main program's icon.  You can select between red, blue, green, or yellow tray icon background colors. The normal (no open Alarm List) tray icon background color is white.  When this option is off, the tray icon background color is always white and the red dot is not shown on the main program's icon.
