Other Options

This dialog is available by selecting the File/Options.../Options menu command.

Portable Mode

Select this option to run Handy Address Book off a removable drive (like a memory stick) so that you can run the program from any computer.  When portable mode is turned on, no changes are made to the host computer.  For example, all program options and preferences are stored in the "handyprefs.txt" file located in the same folder as the Handy Address Book executable.  When portable mode is off, your preferences are instead stored in the registry.  (more info)

Close Button Hides Program To Tray

Word Wrap Notes

Note lines longer than the width of the window will automatically wrap to the next line.  When using this option you will not need to scroll left or right to see the entire note.  Any change made to this option will only take effect the next time the program is started.

Notes Can Be Edited In Main Window

When this option is enabled, you can edit the selected contact's notes directly in the right side Details Window of the main window.

Default vCard Handler

Displays the current application assigned as your default vCard handler.  To make Handy Address Book the default vCard handler, press the Make Handy Address Book Default Handler button.

When Handy is assigned as the default vCard handler you can easily open any vCard (.vcf) file.  If the vCard file you open contains a single address, it will be imported, and automatically opened with the address editor.  If the vCard contains multiple addresses they will be imported into the current address book, and all the imported addresses will be selected.

Default .ABK Handler

Displays the current application assigned as your default Handy Address Book file (*.ABK) handler.  Normally Handy should always be set to be the handler for .ABK files.  To make Handy Address Book the default .ABK handler, press the Make Handy Address Book Default Handler button.

When Handy is assigned as the default .ABK handler you can open any *.ABK address book file by double clicking on that file.

Default Country / Area Code

Displays the current default country and area code, as set through Windows.  The default country and area code are used as defaults when creating new contacts.  These are also used when dialing the phone.  Press the Change... button to open the Phone and Modem control panel dialog in Windows where you can assign your default country and area code as well as set up dialing rules.
